The AI trend is trending

The world is buzzing about AI. This tech is not that new, so why is it on fire right now?

The easy answer is simply that it became more accessible. Chat interfaces to sophisticated models have lowered the barrier, so almost anyone can try.

Asking a question or giving a command in your native tongue is much easier than building and using your own model, or even sending requests to an API.

Crafting prompts is much more natural than model design and feature engineering.

In short, the interface to AI changed. For years we’ve smirked at Siri, Google Home, Amazon Alexa. Having a digital assistant that can pretty much only tell you the weather or misinterpret your song request is rather underwhelming. But these assistants are just early versions. The predecessors to what will likely be the real game changers.

I’m excited, but admittedly a little skeptical at the same time. We’re taking steps forward (the exciting part) but the standard wave of self-appointed prophets are jumping on board the hype train once again too.
